Use the AI Baseline Claude Desktop Extension when you want Claude to retrieve grounded S&P 500 disclosure context directly from AI Baseline. You need two files from AI Baseline:

1. Install the Desktop Extension

Install the ai-baseline.mcpb file by opening it with Claude Desktop:
  1. Download ai-baseline.mcpb.
  2. On macOS or Windows, double-click the downloaded .mcpb file.
  3. If Windows asks how to open the file, choose Claude Desktop.
  4. When Claude Desktop opens, confirm that you want to install the extension.
  5. When prompted, enter your AI Baseline API key.
  6. After installation, make sure the AI Baseline connector is enabled. Claude Desktop may add the connector without enabling it by default.
Do not paste your API key into chat. The extension stores the key in its settings and sends it to AI Baseline as an API header.

2. Install the Skill

Install the ai-baseline-skill.zip file in Claude Desktop:
  1. Download ai-baseline-skill.zip.
  2. Open Claude Desktop Settings.
  3. Go to Skills.
  4. Upload the downloaded Skill zip.
  5. Start a new chat.
The extension provides the tool connection. The Skill tells Claude when to use that tool and how to format the result. The Claude integration includes three prepackaged retrieval packages:
  • skim: basic mode with low effort.
  • standard: research mode with medium effort.
  • deep_dive: agentic_research mode with high effort.

3. Enable AI Baseline in the Chat

In a new Claude Desktop chat, make sure the AI Baseline connector is enabled for that chat. Then ask a question such as:
Use AI Baseline to answer: What supply chain risks did Apple disclose in its 10-K Item 1A filings?
You can also call the Skill directly by typing /ai-baseline in the chat. Claude should use AI Baseline to retrieve source context, citation instructions, and a metadata dashboard before answering.

Troubleshooting

If Claude says AI Baseline is not enabled in the chat, check that:
  • You are using Claude Desktop.
  • The AI Baseline connector is enabled for the current chat.
  • You started a new chat after installing the extension.
  • The API key is saved in the extension settings.
  • Claude Desktop was restarted after installing or updating the extension.
  • The AI Baseline connector is enabled in Claude Desktop Settings. Claude Desktop may not enable it by default.
If you rebuild or update the extension, remove the old extension from Claude Desktop, double-click the new .mcpb, enter the API key again, restart Claude Desktop, and start a new chat.
