1. Install the Desktop Extension
Install theai-baseline.mcpb file by opening it with Claude Desktop:
- Download
ai-baseline.mcpb. - On macOS or Windows, double-click the downloaded
.mcpbfile. - If Windows asks how to open the file, choose Claude Desktop.
- When Claude Desktop opens, confirm that you want to install the extension.
- When prompted, enter your AI Baseline API key.
- After installation, make sure the AI Baseline connector is enabled. Claude Desktop may add the connector without enabling it by default.
2. Install the Skill
Install theai-baseline-skill.zip file in Claude Desktop:
- Download
ai-baseline-skill.zip. - Open Claude Desktop Settings.
- Go to Skills.
- Upload the downloaded Skill zip.
- Start a new chat.

3. Enable AI Baseline in the Chat
In a new Claude Desktop chat, make sure the AI Baseline connector is enabled for that chat. Then ask a question such as:/ai-baseline in the chat.
Claude should use AI Baseline to retrieve source context, citation instructions, and a metadata dashboard before answering.
Troubleshooting
If Claude says AI Baseline is not enabled in the chat, check that:- You are using Claude Desktop.
- The AI Baseline connector is enabled for the current chat.
- You started a new chat after installing the extension.
- The API key is saved in the extension settings.
- Claude Desktop was restarted after installing or updating the extension.
- The AI Baseline connector is enabled in Claude Desktop Settings. Claude Desktop may not enable it by default.
.mcpb, enter the API key again, restart Claude Desktop, and start a new chat.
